CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The head of West Virginia’s Department of Transportation, Jimmy Wriston, found himself in the spotlight after being pulled over for ‘driving erratically’ on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The incident, which was reported by the Charleston Police Department, raised eyebrows and prompted questions about the behavior of a high-ranking government official.

The situation unfolded around 11 p.m. when officers received a call from an off-duty West Virginia State trooper who reported witnessing a driver exhibiting erratic behavior on the east end of Charleston. The driver, later identified as Sec. Jimmy Wriston, was spotted on Interstate 77 South near the 100-mile marker.

Despite the concerning nature of the incident, Wriston was not charged or cited for any traffic violations or criminal offenses. However, the Charleston Police Department announced that an internal investigation has been initiated to ensure that proper protocols were followed during the traffic stop.

During a press conference, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice expressed his concerns about the situation and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation before jumping to conclusions. Justice acknowledged Wriston’s contributions to the state’s highway projects but stressed the importance of addressing any potential issues that may arise.
