Arrest Made in Terrebonne Parish After Child Hospitalized from Drug-Laced Candy Bar

HOUMA, La. (WVUE) – A 19-year-old man has been taken into custody in Terrebonne Parish following an incident where a child ended up in the hospital after consuming a drug-laced chocolate bar.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet reported that on February 23, deputies were called to a local hospital where they discovered a child displaying symptoms consistent with ingesting illegal substances, believed to be present in a chocolate bar.

The child, whose age and gender have not been disclosed, was promptly transferred to another medical facility for further treatment and is currently in a stable condition.

Investigations revealed that the child was in the care of a family member identified as Sayonta Calloway at the time of the incident. It was noted that the child’s mother was not present when the child consumed the tainted confectionery.

Sheriff Soignet stated that Calloway admitted to having the chocolate bar laced with narcotics. As a result, Calloway was charged with second-degree cruelty to juveniles and was subsequently released on a $20,000 bond.
