Human Remains Identified as Missing Man Found in Submerged Truck in Weiss Lake

CHEROKEE COUNTY–After a decade-long mystery, human remains discovered in a truck submerged in Weiss Lake last Friday have been positively identified as belonging to Oscar Lewis King, a man who went missing in 2013, according to officials from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald, working in collaboration with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, made the confirmation of King’s identity. The man, who was 72 years old at the time of his disappearance, had remained missing for over ten years.

It is believed that King accidentally drove his vehicle into the water from a boat ramp situated at the Chesnut Bay Resort near Leesburg. The tragic incident resulted in his truck being submerged in the lake.

Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford has stated that there is no indication of any foul play in this case, suggesting that King’s death was a tragic accident.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver expressed relief at the resolution of the case, stating, “We are grateful that the mystery surrounding this disappearance has finally been solved, and the family can now find closure in understanding the circumstances of what happened to Mr. King.”
