Tragic Incident Unfolds as Husband Allegedly Stabs Young Wife to Death

A devastating event shook the small community of Manjilil village in Simoti location, Konoin sub county, Bomet, as a 23-year-old woman named Caren Chebet was brutally stabbed to death on Tuesday afternoon by her estranged husband.

Simoti location chief, Winrose Chepkemoi, confirmed the heartbreaking incident that left the village in shock.

Local police officers swiftly responded to the scene after receiving reports of the heinous crime.

Upon arrival, the lifeless body of the young woman was discovered near a tea plantation, with deep stab wounds on her chest and back. A kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found next to her.

Eyewitnesses recounted hearing screams coming from the plantation and rushing to find Chebet with the kitchen knife lodged in her back. Despite efforts to administer First Aid, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Suspect Apprehended

The main suspect, identified as Franklin Cheruiyot Langat, also known as Brian, aged 26 and the deceased’s husband, was seen fleeing the scene of the crime.

Authorities managed to track down and arrest the suspect at Chongweno village, approximately 15 kilometres away from the murder site, where he was found hiding in a tea plantation.

Langat was subsequently taken into custody at Konoin police station as investigations into the tragic incident continue.

Legal Proceedings

The victim’s body was transported to Kapkatet sub-county hospital mortuary for preservation and awaits a postmortem examination.
