Akron Police Make Arrests in Connection to Fatal Shooting

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in Akron, Ohio last week. The incident took place in the 900 block of Bellevue Avenue on Monday, Feb. 19, where officers found 26-year-old Carlos Godineaux with gunshot wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Arrests Made

After conducting a thorough investigation, Akron police identified two suspects, aged 15 and 18, in connection to the murder. Warrants were issued for their arrest, leading to their subsequent apprehension.

The 15-year-old suspect was arrested at a residence on the 1000 block of Copley Road, where a handgun was also recovered. The 18-year-old suspect, Jontay Johnson, was tracked down and arrested by the US Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at Belden Village in Canton.

Both teenagers have been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in relation to the fatal shooting. Akron Mayor Shammas Malik expressed deep frustration over the incident, emphasizing that those who choose to engage in criminal activities will be held accountable for their actions in the city.
