Suspects Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Akron Resident
Two individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the tragic death of 26-year-old Akron resident, Carlos DeJesus-Godineaux, as confirmed by the police on Wednesday.
The lifeless body of Godineaux was discovered with gunshot wounds in the 900 block of Bellevue Avenue. Despite being rushed to Cleveland Clinic Akron General in critical condition, he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.
Arrests Made
Following an extensive investigation into the incident, two suspects, aged 15 and 18, were identified. The apprehension of 18-year-old Jontay Johnson took place on Wednesday morning, thanks to the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at Belden Village Mall in Canton.
The 15-year-old suspect was already in police custody by Monday, having been located in the 1000 block of Copley Road. Substantial evidence was also gathered from a residence on Manchester Road on the same day.

Charges Laid
Both teenagers have been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the death of Godineaux. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives exploring the possibility of additional suspects involved in the crime.
Gratitude and Condolences
Acting Police Chief Brian Harding expressed his gratitude towards the community and law enforcement partners for their collaborative efforts in solving the case. He also commended the US Marshals for their role in the successful apprehension of the suspects.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik extended his condolences to the family of Carlos Godineaux and praised the dedication of the Akron police force. He emphasised the accountability that comes with criminal actions, particularly highlighting the seriousness of such behaviour among teenagers.
While the arrests provide some semblance of justice for the grieving family, the investigation continues in the pursuit of complete closure for all parties involved.
