The Yobe State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has successfully apprehended a total of thirty suspects in Damaturu for their involvement in various criminal activities, including homicide, theft, and burglary. The arrests were made following a recent surge in criminal incidents reported by residents in the area.
According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the arrests were a result of intensified raids and patrols conducted by the security agencies to root out criminal elements in the community. Among the suspects apprehended, two individuals, identified as 25-year-old Mohammed Garba and 22-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed, were implicated in a fatal stabbing incident that occurred during a burglary.
The tragic incident took place on February 14, 2024, at around 4:18 am, when a man named Haruna Mohd lost his life after being stabbed in the abdomen while trying to apprehend a burglar who had broken into a house and stolen valuable items, including cellphones. The arrested suspects, Mohammed Garba and Ibrahim Mohammed, were allegedly responsible for the fatal stabbing.
During the operation, security personnel recovered several pieces of evidence, including a knife and five stolen cellphones of different brands. One of the suspects, known as Mohd Garba A.K.A Sara Dikko, reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he and his accomplice, Ibrahim Mohd A.K.A Boy, broke into a house, stole cellphones, and resorted to violence when confronted by the victim.
The Yobe State Police Command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the community that the culprits would face the full force of the law. The command emphasized the importance of implementing proactive measures to prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future.
It was also revealed that a significant number of the arrested individuals had previous criminal records and had served time in prison for similar offences.
