Arrest Made in Kenner Following Series of Violent Crimes

A 19-year-old Honduran man has been taken into custody in Kenner after a string of violent incidents, as reported by the Kenner Police Department.

The investigation was launched on Tuesday, February 20, following reports of a 14-year-old girl being sexually assaulted at knifepoint. The suspect, Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, was identified by authorities as the perpetrator. Castellanos-Orellana was found to be residing in the United States illegally.

On Sunday, February 25, at approximately 3:15 a.m., law enforcement responded to a stabbing incident in the 2600 block of Phoenix Street. It was reported that a man was exiting his vehicle when he was approached by Castellanos-Orellana, who demanded his belongings. During the robbery, the victim was stabbed multiple times in the face and back by Castellanos-Orellana. The victim was rushed to the hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Castellanos-Orellana covered in blood and promptly arrested him. He has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, first-degree rape, and aggravated assault. Additionally, a Federal “ICE” detainer has been issued for Castellanos-Orellana.

Chief Keith Conley expressed the challenges faced by law enforcement when dealing with undocumented immigrants, citing limited access to data, false identification, and language barriers as major hindrances. Castellanos-Orellana has reportedly used aliases in the past, including Elven Locket.

“The arrest of Castellanos-Orellana provides some relief to our community, but concerns remain about potential future crimes and identity changes,” Chief Conley stated.
