In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the community, a 35-year-old woman named A. Vennila and her two young daughters, A. Jenusri (5) and A. Dharnika (3), were struck and fatally injured by a train at the Walajah Road railway station on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded around 10 a.m. as the Antyodaya Express train bound for Chennai was approaching the station. Witnesses observed Vennila walking with her children across the railway tracks when the train collided with them, resulting in a devastating outcome.
Upon the impact, passengers at the station and railway staff swiftly responded to the scene, but sadly, the injuries sustained by the victims proved fatal. The bodies were subsequently transferred to the Government Taluk Hospital in Walajah town for further examination through post-mortem procedures.

The Circumstances Leading to the Tragic Incident
Initial investigations revealed a distressing backstory involving the victims and their family dynamics. It was disclosed that S. Arivazhagan, a 40-year-old retired army personnel, had entered into a marriage with Vennila seven years prior, following his separation from his first wife, A. Vijayalakshmi. Recent legal proceedings had favoured Vijayalakshmi, granting her the right to reside with her estranged husband.
On the fateful Tuesday, Vijayalakshmi visited Arivazhagan’s residence near Ammoor village, leading to a confrontation with Vennila. The tension escalated, prompting Vennila to depart from their home with her two daughters, ultimately culminating in the tragic accident at the railway station.
Authorities have initiated a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the events leading up to the fatal collision. The community is left reeling from the loss, and support services are available for those grappling with the aftermath.
