Bhopal Woman Dies After Childbirth Due to Alleged Negligence at JP Hospital
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a heartbreaking turn of events, a woman tragically lost her life after giving birth at JP Hospital in Bhopal. The victim, identified as Suman, was admitted to the hospital for delivery but faced complications that ultimately led to her untimely demise.

The Tragic Incident
Suman, a 30-year-old woman, was scheduled for a cesarean delivery on February 13 at JP Hospital. Her husband, Gopal Rao Bangar, who works as a driver for an IAS officer in the state capital, recounted the harrowing experience of witnessing his wife’s deteriorating health.
After Suman started experiencing tremors, doctors at JP Hospital referred her to Hamidia Hospital for further treatment. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when an ambulance was called to transfer Suman, but the driver was initially absent from the scene. This delay proved to be critical, as every minute counted in Suman’s deteriorating condition.
Despite doctors’ advice to provide Suman with oxygen during the transfer to Hamidia Hospital, no oxygen cylinder was available in the ambulance. As a result, Suman struggled for breath until she reached Hamidia Hospital, where she underwent a cesarean delivery. Tragically, Suman passed away the following morning, leaving behind a healthy newborn.
Investigation and Resignations
Following the incident, a committee was formed to investigate the alleged negligence at JP Hospital. Several doctors, including Dr. Rekha Wadhwani, Head of Gynecology at Hamidia Hospital, resigned citing personal reasons. Dr. Shabana Sultan has since replaced Dr. Wadhwani, and further decisions will be made based on the investigation report and government directives.

The case has garnered significant attention, prompting NHM MD Priyanka Das to form an investigation committee comprising medical experts from various hospitals in Bhopal. While every maternal death is typically reviewed, Suman’s case has highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
As the community mourns the loss of Suman, questions surrounding the quality of healthcare at JP Hospital and the overall system’s accountability have come to the forefront. The investigation committee’s findings will be crucial in determining the next steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
