FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Inmate Found Unresponsive in Allen County Jail

Authorities in Allen County are conducting a death investigation following the tragic discovery of an unresponsive inmate at the county jail on Monday evening.

According to reports, the inmate, identified as 27-year-old Steven Perry Jr. from Fort Wayne, was found unresponsive in the “6C Block” of the Allen County Jail at 7:03 p.m. The alert was raised by fellow inmates, prompting immediate action from jail staff and nursing personnel who administered medical care until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene.

Despite their best efforts, Perry was pronounced deceased after being rushed to Lutheran Hospital for further treatment. The young man had been in custody at the Allen County Jail since January 31.
