Lakeside High School Student Killed in Tragic Car Crash in DeKalb County

According to DeKalb County Schools and Channel 2 Action News, the fatal crash took place on Oak Grove Road near Kirkland Drive around midnight. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old Sophie Lekiachvili from Doraville.

Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen visited the crash site on Tuesday and observed a growing memorial of flowers for Lekiachvili. Heartbroken classmates, who had known Lekiachvili for years, gathered at the memorial to pay their respects.

Friends of the victim described Lekiachvili as one of the most compassionate individuals they had ever met. They revealed that she had plans to attend Auburn University in the upcoming fall semester.

The two other students involved in the crash are reportedly in stable condition, as confirmed by the district. Their identities have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident or if any charges will be filed.

In a letter addressed to parents, Lakeside Principal Susan Stoddard assured families that students would receive support and counseling services from school personnel to help them cope with the tragedy.

Denise Revels, the director of student support services, elaborated on the school’s efforts to assist grieving students, including writing letters and cards for the family of the deceased student and organizing group therapy sessions.
