Man and Two-Year-Old Son Injured in Shooting Incident
A man and his two-year-old son were shot while riding a motorcycle in a tragic incident that occurred near the Carmelite church in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City. The victim, identified as Smith Sayco of Holy Name Street, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body, while his son was injured after falling off the motorcycle.
Both victims were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, with the younger Sayco later being transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr., the chief of the Mabolo Police Station, revealed that the gunman responsible for the attack has been identified and is now the subject of a manhunt operation.
According to Caacoy, the tragic incident took place after the victim and his son had attended a wake for Sayco’s late wife, who had passed away while in Cebu City Jail. The assailants opened fire on the father and son as they arrived at the agreed meeting place, causing the motorcycle to crash. The PNP Forensic Unit recovered five empty bullet shells from the crime scene, which will undergo ballistic analysis.
Caacoy hinted at a possible drug-related motive for the shooting, citing Sayco’s previous involvement in illegal drugs and his connections to known drug personalities in Mabolo. He stated, “Based on the intel report we received, he received a text message on his cellphone indicating a meeting at the scene of the incident, which resulted in the shooting.”

The police are currently examining the victim’s cellphone for any leads that could help in apprehending the suspect. The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing, with authorities working to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide justice for the victims.
