Police Pursuit in Town of Onondaga Leads to Arrest of Suspect

In the late hours of February 20, a routine traffic stop in the Town of Onondaga, N.Y. escalated into a high-speed police pursuit involving multiple law enforcement units, including K9s and Air-1 helicopter.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, a white Honda vehicle attempted to evade a deputy who was trying to pull over the driver on Lafayette Road. The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Sheyanne McCarthy from the Town of Clay, refused to stop and sped away from the scene.

The chase extended into the Onondaga Nation area, prompting the deployment of Air-1, the sheriff’s office’s helicopter, to assist in tracking the suspect’s movements. The pursuit continued until the vehicle became disabled on a dirt road behind the Onondaga Nation Fieldhouse, at which point the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Law enforcement officers, aided by K9 units, managed to locate McCarthy as she attempted to hide in a heavily wooded and swampy area. Despite her attempts to evade capture, she was eventually apprehended and taken into custody. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene as McCarthy was found to be highly impaired and lacking proper footwear and clothing.
