Two individuals, Michelle Castillo and June Castillo, sustained injuries in a traffic collision that took place in Joshua Tree, California. The incident resulted in the tragic death of Ricardo Lopez Cendejas, a 54-year-old man from Twentynine Palms.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officially identified Ricardo Lopez Cendejas as the man who lost his life in a hit-and-run crash in Joshua Tree on January 10. Cendejas was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries at approximately 8:44 p.m. on the same day.

Details of the Collision

The incident occurred on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree, specifically east of El Rey Avenue, at around 8 p.m. on January 10. Javious Vance, a 32-year-old resident of Yucca Valley, was driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger at a high speed in the right lane of the highway. Meanwhile, Michelle Castillo, aged 27 and from Twentynine Palms, was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Spark in the same lane but at a slower pace than Vance.

Vance’s Dodge collided with the rear of Castillo’s Chevrolet Spark, leading to the tragic outcome. Following the crash, Vance fled the scene, leaving behind the injured victims.

Additional Victims

In addition to the fatality of Ricardo Lopez Cendejas, Michelle Castillo and June Castillo, aged 53 and also from Twentynine Palms, sustained injuries in the collision. Both women were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with minor injuries for treatment.

Arrest and Charges

On the following day, January 11, Javious Vance turned himself in at the CHP’s Morongo Basin office. He was subsequently arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run in connection to the fatal collision in Joshua Tree.
