Accident – Death – Obituary News : MIDDLEBORO – The tragic incident that occurred on Saturday in Middleboro has left the community in mourning. The 12-year-old girl who lost her life in a devastating house fire has been identified as Jasmine Lane, a student at Nichols Middle School in Middleboro. Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz confirmed the identity of the young victim on Monday.

Lane’s untimely death has deeply impacted her classmates at Nichols Middle School, who returned to school on Monday after the February break. Grief counselors were on hand to provide support to students struggling to cope with the loss of their peer.

The fire, which took place at Lane’s home on Pearl Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, also resulted in serious injuries to a 61-year-old woman who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. A 59-year-old man and another child were also injured and received treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Middleboro Superintendent Carolyn Lyons expressed the community’s shock and sadness in a letter to families, acknowledging the profound impact of the tragic event on not just the Nichols Middle School community, but also on the Burkland Elementary School and Middleborough High School communities where family members attend.

Wendy Wyman, the family’s landlord for the past ten years, revealed that Lane’s parents were away at the time of the fire. Wyman, deeply saddened by the tragedy, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support the grieving family. She described Lane as always wearing a smile and fondly recalled interactions with her at the family’s home.

Neighbour Maria Tremouliaris, a long-time resident of Pearl Street, left flowers outside the burned-out home as a gesture of sympathy and support. She shared fond memories of the young girl and her siblings playing in the neighbourhood, highlighting the close-knit community on Pearl Street.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the Middleboro community comes together to mourn the loss of Jasmine Lane and support her grieving family. The outpouring of support and condolences from neighbours and community members serves as a reminder of the strength and unity that can emerge in the face of tragedy..
