Abandonment at the Salon

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, the mother, identified as 42-year-old Rasheedah Fields, brought her 2-3-year-old daughter to the salon for a hair appointment. After getting her hair done, Fields reportedly stepped outside for a cigarette and never returned, leaving her child behind. The salon employees, concerned for the child’s well-being, provided snacks and beverages while attempting to locate the mother.

Search for the Mother

Despite their efforts, the salon staff were unable to find Fields, prompting them to contact the authorities. Police officers arrived on the scene and took the child into protective custody under the care of Luzerne County Children and Youth Services. The search for the mother continued, leading investigators to a residence on Dana Street the following morning.

Domestic Disturbance Reveals Mother’s Condition

Upon responding to a domestic disturbance call at the Dana Street address, police encountered Fields, who exhibited signs of intoxication. Fields admitted to consuming alcohol and ecstasy during a four-day binge, leading to her impaired state. She expressed confusion about her daughter’s whereabouts, ultimately revealing her identity as the child’s mother.

Legal Consequences

As a result of her actions, Fields was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and later released on bail after posting $10,000. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of parental responsibility and the potential consequences of neglecting one’s duties.
