PRESIDIO Police searching for suspect involved in car theft and high-speed pursuit

PRESIDIO, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Presidio Police Department is currently on the lookout for a male suspect who was involved in a car theft incident and led officers on a high-speed pursuit on Monday.

On Monday, February 26th, officers from the Presidio Police Department conducted a stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen at the Frontier Travel Center in Presidio.

According to a statement released by the Police Department, the driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Ivan Ramos Hernandez from Fort Stockton. Hernandez allegedly refused to comply with officers’ instructions at the scene and instead accelerated, initiating a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of up to 92 mph. The pursuit continued onto FM 170 West near a lot owned by the International Water Boundary Commissions, where Hernandez abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

A Presidio Police Officer pursued Hernandez on foot for approximately 17 minutes before gunshots were heard in the officer’s direction, prompting the termination of the pursuit for safety reasons.

Assistance in tracking down the suspect was provided by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, Presidio US Border Patrol, and US Customs and Border Protection. Hernandez was observed crossing the border into Mexico illegally as the gunshots were fired.

During a search of the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered keys to six different vehicles, stolen personal identification documents, and a falsified ID used to deceive law enforcement.

The Presidio Police Department is now actively seeking Ivan Ramos Hernandez on charges of Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Identity Theft. Hernandez is considered to be armed and dangerous.
