In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday morning, a police pursuit in Kansas culminated in the arrest of two individuals in Chase County. The incident unfolded just after 9 a.m. when a vigilant deputy from the Chase County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle for speeding on U.S. Highway 50 at mile marker 327.

## Passenger with Warrant Considered Armed and Dangerous

Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy discovered that the passenger had an outstanding warrant from Harvey County and was believed to be potentially armed and dangerous. As the deputy dealt with this revelation, the driver decided to make a run for it, fleeing from the scene and initiating a high-speed pursuit eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 towards Emporia.

In a bid to stop the fleeing vehicle, stop sticks were strategically deployed just outside of Emporia. Despite this obstacle, the driver skillfully navigated around the stop sticks and continued into the city limits. The pursuit eventually came to a halt at the intersection of Lakeview Street and East 9th Avenue, prompting both suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.

With the situation escalating, the Chase County Sheriff’s Office coordinated efforts with the Kansas Highway Patrol and Coffey County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units to track down the suspects. Following an intense search, the suspects were apprehended while hiding in the garage of a house in the 900 block of Lakeview.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Wichita, is now facing a litany of charges, including speeding, felony flee and elude, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, criminal trespass, and several other traffic-related offences. Meanwhile, the passenger, a 33-year-old woman also from Wichita, is charged with flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass, as well as the existing warrant from Harvey County.
