Sonoma County Woman Arrested for Battery on Peace Officer After Rescue

A woman in Sonoma County, California, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of battery on a peace officer and other charges after a dramatic rescue operation in the Russian River. Lacey Mosher, 38, of Santa Rosa, was saved from drowning by deputies but then allegedly turned on them, leading to her arrest.

Mosher was booked into Sonoma County jail on charges including felony resisting arrest, felony battery on a peace officer, misdemeanor being under the influence of drugs, and felony violation of probation. Due to the probation violation, she was held without bail.

Rescue Operation

The incident unfolded when dispatchers received a 911 call about a child being swept down the Russian River from Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville. The river’s high water levels, rapids, and debris posed a serious threat to the child’s safety.

Sgt. Gary Lawson and Deputy Anthony Powers sprang into action, with Lawson entering the water to rescue the person in distress, who turned out to be Mosher. However, instead of cooperating, Mosher allegedly began fighting Lawson, pushing him under the water.

Despite Mosher’s resistance, the deputies managed to control her and bring her to safety. After a challenging rescue operation that lasted about 25 minutes, both Lawson and Deputy Cody McCready were treated for exposure to the cold water.

Arrest and Aftermath

Following her rescue, Mosher was taken to a local hospital for treatment. However, she continued to assault first responders and medical personnel, leading to her arrest on multiple charges the following day.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office commended the efforts of its deputies and partner agencies, including the Sonoma County Fire District and CHP-Santa Rosa, for their swift response and assistance during the incident.
