The incident occurred when a 45-year-old Fort Saskatchewan woman, after driving over a police spike belt on 50th Street and 22nd Avenue S.W., was struck by a male suspect in a U-Haul truck. The tragic event unfolded as part of a larger police operation to apprehend a theft suspect who fled from Beaumont RCMP.
Active Homicide Investigation
RCMP Supt. Leanne MacMillan confirmed that the woman was one of three civilians to hit the spike belt, resulting in the tragic outcome. Another individual sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident. The police pursuit, involving the U-Haul truck and subsequent hit-and-run, has now turned into an active homicide investigation led by the Alberta RCMP.
