Criminal Arrest Made in Connection to Fatal Shooting at West Palm Beach Apartment Complex

A 21-year-old West Palm Beach man has been arrested by police in connection to a fatal shooting that took place at a city apartment complex last week. Damario Jones is facing a first-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing 19-year-old Jeanariun St. Fort at the Lake Mangonia Apartments on North Australian Avenue.

During a court hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail, Circuit Judge Donald Hafele assigned Jones a public defender and ordered that he be held without bail and have no contact with St. Fort’s family. The Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office has declined to comment on the ongoing case.

The Lake Mangonia Apartments have been in the spotlight recently due to a separate fatal shooting in January. In response to the violence, city police have been actively working with property owners and engaging with the community to address safety concerns.

“We’ve been working with the property owners. We’re engaged with the community and the community is stepping up,” said police spokesman Mike Jachles in a recent video conference with reporters. “Our ultimate goal is to eliminate the problems from this property.”

Surveillance Video Captures Fatal Shooting Incident

According to Jones’ arrest report, officers responded to the complex on the morning of Feb. 21 and found St. Fort lying in the hallway with multiple gunshot wounds. St. Fort was later pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Surveillance-camera footage showed Jones and at least one other individual involved in the shooting. The video captured a silver Ford Escape fleeing to a neighboring complex before disappearing from view. Jones’ fingerprints were found on the vehicle, leading to his arrest.

After being taken into custody, Jones admitted to being at the apartment complex on the morning of the incident but denied shooting St. Fort. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and it is unknown if any additional arrests are pending.
