Woman Opens Fire at Joel Osteen’s Houston Megachurch, Killing Herself

Authorities in Texas have released chilling footage of the moments leading up to and following a shooting incident at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, which resulted in the death of the female shooter. The incident also left two others injured, including the shooter’s 7-year-old son who remains in critical condition.

The video, shared on the Houston Police Department’s Critical Incidents YouTube channel, shows Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, arriving at the church in a white SUV with a young child by her side. Body camera footage from off-duty officers and a sheriff’s deputy captures the chaos as shots ring out, causing panic among the congregation.

One officer can be seen praying as she moves towards the gunfire, asking for divine protection. The young boy is shown covering his ears to shield himself from the noise of the gunshots. Moreno, armed with an AR-style rifle, threatens the officers with claims of having a bomb strapped to her chest, although no explosives were found.

After Moreno is shot and collapses, officers rush to her and the injured boy. The child is seen lying motionless on the floor, with one officer reporting multiple gunshot wounds to his head. A bystander was also shot in the hip but has since been discharged from the hospital.

Update on the Injured Boy

The released footage also includes an update on the condition of 7-year-old Samuel Moreno, who continues to fight for his life. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner expressed sorrow over the situation, emphasizing the need for support and prayers for the young victim.

It remains unclear from the video who fired the shot that struck Samuel. Authorities have not provided further details, citing ongoing investigations and unanswered questions. Finner suggested placing responsibility on Moreno for endangering the child.

Possible Motive and Background

While authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, previous statements suggest a potential link to Moreno’s personal history. The rifle she carried reportedly had a “Palestine” sticker, and her ex-husband’s Jewish background may have played a role in the dispute.

Houston Police Commander Chris Hassig indicated that a family feud involving Moreno’s ex-husband and his Jewish relatives could have contributed to the tragic incident. He highlighted Moreno’s past arrests and mental health issues as factors in the case.
