Tera Renee Hanley, 42, who was residing at the property, was present during the incident and subsequently charged with second-degree domestic battery in connection with the shooting.

Search and Discovery of Firearms and Narcotics

During a search of the residence, conducted with Hanley’s consent, investigators found two firearms concealed in a closet in the master bedroom, along with a variety of narcotics in plain sight. The 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force was contacted, and a search warrant was obtained.

Upon executing the search warrant, DTF members discovered a magnetic box containing suspected methamphetamine and marijuana on the mattress in the master bedroom. A digital scale was also found under the bed. Additionally, two long guns—a Ruger .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle and a 20-gauge single-shot shotgun—were recovered from the premises.

Further search revealed additional narcotics, including methamphetamine and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia in various locations within the residence.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Despite his protests at the scene, Hughes was not arrested due to his injuries requiring medical attention. Subsequent checks revealed that Hughes was a parolee with an active search waiver on file.

Following a detailed investigation, warrants were issued for Hughes’ arrest, which were served on Thursday morning.

Hanley, who also faced charges related to the firearms and drugs found at the property, pleaded not guilty in court and was released on bond pending a review hearing in April.

The arrest of Hughes marks another development in this ongoing legal case, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing drug and firearm-related offences in the Hot Springs area.
