Man arrested for impersonating government official at Raj Bhavan in Jammu

A man has been taken into custody for pretending to be a government official stationed at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu, the crime branch announced on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Firdous Ahmad Wagay, hailing from Waskora village in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, was apprehended by the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE) team, according to a statement released by the agency.

The arrest was made following the initiation of a case under relevant legal provisions at the CICE Police Station. Upon searching the suspect, the law enforcement officers discovered incriminating evidence, such as counterfeit identity cards, stamps, and other documents used in the commission of the offence.

An official disclosed that Wagay had been masquerading as the under secretary assigned to the Raj Bhavan in order to deceive unsuspecting individuals. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
