Oil Pressure Warnings Sound Before Crash

Prior to the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board reported that three warnings about oil pressure problems in the aircraft’s engines were sounded. The pilots received alerts about oil pressure issues in both the left and right engines, as well as a general “ENGINE” warning. Despite these warnings, the pilots attempted to land on Interstate 75.

Emergency Landing and Tragic Outcome

As the pilots announced that they had lost both engines, they made a valiant effort to land the plane on the busy highway. Unfortunately, the aircraft crashed into a concrete sound barrier and burst into flames upon impact. The two pilots lost their lives in the crash, while the flight attendant and two passengers miraculously survived with only minor injuries.

Investigation and Further Details

Investigators found no obvious problems that could have caused the engine failures, despite some damage to the engines. The aircraft, a Bombardier built in 2004, had undergone its most recent airworthiness inspection in January. The tragic incident involved the aircraft operated by Hop-a-Jet Worldwide Charter, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The deceased pilots, Edward Daniel Murphy and Ian Frederick Hofmann, were experienced aviators with thousands of hours of flight time. The survivors, crew member Sydney Ann Bosmans and passengers Aaron Baker and Audra Green, were fortunate to escape with minor injuries.
