Accident – Death – Obituary News : Kent Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a reported carjacking that took place early Monday morning on the West Hill. The incident unfolded when a Kent officer on routine patrol in the 26000 block of Pacific Highway South was alerted by witnesses outside a business. The witnesses informed the officer that suspects were attempting to rob a person of their vehicle behind the location.

Upon receiving this information, the officer immediately called for backup and positioned himself strategically to intercept the suspects. As he turned a corner, he spotted a white Ford SUV, later identified as the stolen vehicle, trying to flee the scene. The officer observed a person falling from the driver’s side door, who later revealed that the suspects had forcibly taken his car.

With probable cause to pursue the vehicle under current state laws, the officer initiated a pursuit as other units responded to the scene. The stolen vehicle was eventually located and pursued by both Kent and Des Moines officers. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver was employed, causing the vehicle to slow down. One of the suspects, a 47-year-old man from Bellevue, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers. Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of a loaded rifle, two replica handguns, and suspected methamphetamines.

The pursuit of the stolen vehicle continued into Auburn, where an Auburn Police officer executed a second PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The second suspect, a 48-year-old man from Los Angeles, tried to escape on foot but was swiftly captured by law enforcement. The Bellevue man, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was booked into the King County jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree robbery, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing an investigation, with additional charges related to drug possession pending.

The Los Angeles man was arrested for investigation of first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police, and possession of tools for motor vehicle theft. The victim of the carjacking was treated at a local hospital and released the following day.
