MILWAUKEE Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Amari Smith
MILWAUKEE — Authorities in Milwaukee are currently investigating a tragic incident that took place on Sunday, Feb. 25, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Amari Smith.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the vicinity of 20th St. & Burleigh St., near Union Cemetery, as confirmed by Milwaukee Police.

According to reports, law enforcement officers had attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. The driver of the car allegedly fled eastbound on W. Burleigh St. before colliding with Smith’s car at the intersection of 20th & Burleigh, resulting in Smith’s untimely death.
Tragically, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Eye-witness Ramona Fulbright recounted the harrowing incident, stating, “When I came out, the guy was in the passenger seat I believe and he was lifeless. They pulled him out and tried to do CPR, but he wouldn’t revive.”
Jeremy Adams, another nearby resident, shared his shock and sorrow over the incident, expressing, “It’s sad. Like right now, I just can feel the chills going through my body.”
Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station captured the speeding car running a red light and crashing into Smith’s vehicle as he passed through a green light. The impact of the collision pushed Smith’s car into a dumpster in the parking lot, as depicted in the footage.
“It’s a tragic way to lose your life, especially when you’re simply going about your day,” Adams lamented.
Following the crash, a 40-year-old individual was taken into custody in connection with the incident, with authorities also recovering a firearm at the scene. Charges are currently pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
