GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) – A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Goose Creek, South Carolina, as a mother and her 15-year-old son tragically lost their lives in a double murder-suicide, according to authorities.

Law enforcement officers received a distressing call around 9:43 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a man with a firearm at a residence on Water Oak Drive. The caller informed police that the man, later identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein, was reportedly intoxicated and holding individuals hostage at gunpoint.

Upon arrival at the scene, police swiftly surrounded the property, and negotiators made efforts to establish communication with the suspect. Goose Creek Police SWAT team eventually entered the home, where they discovered the lifeless bodies of two adults and a juvenile, all bearing gunshot wounds, as confirmed by Capt. James Emerson in a statement.

The victims were later identified as 43-year-old Tracy McEvoy and her teenage son, William Allen McEvoy Jr., both residents of Goose Creek. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office determined that all three individuals succumbed to injuries sustained during the tragic shooting incident.
