Hostage Situation in Goose Creek Ends in Tragic Deaths

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) — A tragic hostage situation unfolded in Goose Creek on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of a woman, her teenage son, and the suspect involved.

The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Tracy McEvoy and her 15-year-old son, William Allen McEvoy, both residents of Goose Creek, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

The suspect, 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein, also from Goose Creek, was identified as the perpetrator in this devastating incident. All three individuals lost their lives as a result of the shooting, as confirmed by the coroner’s office.

The tragic events unfolded when the Goose Creek Police Department (GCPD) received a distressing call at 9:43 p.m. reporting a male suspect, later identified as Hegwein, was armed and holding hostages at a residence on Water Oak Drive. The caller indicated that Hegwein was intoxicated and dangerous.
