UPDATE (02/26/2024; 2:10 PM): The discovery of partial remains of a female body in the Ouachita River in Catahoula Parish has led to a complex investigation that has unfolded over the past month. The incident began on January 24, 2024, when a local boater found the remains and alerted authorities. An autopsy was conducted, and DNA and toxicology tests were carried out to identify the victim.

As detectives worked to identify the remains, they came across a missing person report for Sheryl Turner, a 19-year-old female from New Iberia, La. Turner had left for Monroe, La. with an unknown black male, according to her twin sister. The investigation led detectives to Sheryl’s family, who provided DNA samples for comparison.

Efforts to locate Sheryl included speaking to individuals she had contact with, such as Jerone Isiah Tines, who had last seen her in early January. Despite the search efforts, the fast-moving waters of the Ouachita River posed challenges for divers trying to explore areas identified by a cadaver dog.
