CORAM, Long Island (WABC) — A tragic incident unfolded in Coram, Long Island, as a man lost his life after falling out of his wheelchair and being struck by a driver who was reportedly under the influence of drugs.

The victim, identified as Raymond Hubbard, aged 33, was attempting to cross Middle County Road on Saturday night when he fell onto the road surface.

According to Suffolk County Police, Nicholas Doxtader, 35, hit Hubbard with his Chevy Suburban while passing by.

Doxtader remained at the scene of the accident, where responding officers determined that he was impaired. He was subsequently taken into custody.
