Two Men Found Dead in Des Moines Parking Lot Identified

The two individuals who were discovered deceased in a parking area to the north of Des Moines on the 23rd of February have now been officially identified. The incident took place at 5153 N.E. 17th St., where the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 6:43 a.m.

Captain Ryan Evans, the spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that the bodies of two men were found in front of Power Brace Manufacturing, a steel fabrication company situated across from the Polk County Jail.

Based on witness testimonies, physical evidence at the scene, and video footage, investigators have strong reasons to believe that the tragic event was a case of murder-suicide. It is suspected that one of the men fatally shot the other before turning the gun on himself.

The deceased victim has been identified as Francisco Leonel Rivera Cosme, 33, who was employed by the company where the shooting occurred. The suspected perpetrator in this apparent murder-suicide has been named as Alexis Manuel Lopez Rivera, 31, from West Des Moines.

During the course of the investigation, it has been revealed that both individuals were acquainted with each other prior to the tragic incident. However, authorities are still in the process of determining the motive behind the shocking act.

Despite attempts to reach out for comments, the company where Cosme was employed has not provided any immediate response.
