Former Shreveport Police Officer Faces Jury Trial for Failure to Report Felony

A former Shreveport Police Department officer, Jason Brooks, appeared in court on Monday, February 26, facing allegations of withholding information related to a homicide investigation.

Brooks, aged 51, is scheduled to stand trial by jury on April 22 for a charge of failure to report a felony. His attorney, Dhu Thompson, mentioned that a hearing is set for April 3 to address a motion to quash the criminal statute under which Brooks is charged.

The arrest of Brooks in December 2022 is linked to the death of Michael Grace, a 61-year-old man whose body was found in a nightclub parking lot on Girard Street in Shreveport. Shortly after Grace’s discovery, another body, identified as 30-year-old William Colby Sirman, was found in a drainage ditch near Kings Highway at Creswell Avenue.

Authorities believe that the two cases are connected, with Sirman allegedly responsible for Grace’s death and ending up in the ditch after losing control of his motorcycle.

It is alleged that Brooks had prior knowledge of the Grace homicide but failed to report it, resulting in his charge of failure to report a felony.
