Man Facing Multiple Charges After Stolen Car Chase Ends in Crash

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) – A man is facing a slew of charges after crashing into a patrol vehicle during a stolen car chase in Rowan County on Monday morning, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

The driver, Clevo Shuff, 18 years old, was apprehended and now faces several charges, including Felony Flee to Elude, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Damage to Property, No Operators License, Displaying a Fictitious License Plate, Assault on a Government Official, Speeding, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

According to deputies, one of the backseat passengers, Aimedo Ilembula, 19 years old, was also taken into custody and charged with an outstanding warrant from Charlotte for shooting into an occupied dwelling. The other backseat passenger, a 16-year-old, was released to a parent at the scene. The front-seat passenger managed to flee and remains at large.

The chase commenced around 3 a.m. near Old Beatty Ford Road before culminating in a collision along Interstate 85 at Exit 49.

Authorities stated that deputies observed a vehicle speeding and displaying an unregistered tag in the vicinity of I-85 and attempted to pull the vehicle over. However, the suspect’s car, a blue Nissan Altima, refused to comply, leading deputies on a pursuit on I-85 southbound. The pursuit came to a close when the stolen vehicle attempted to evade stopsticks, lost control, struck a central concrete barrier, and ultimately collided with a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
