Details of the Incident

The Lawrence Police Department responded to a call around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday reporting a medical emergency at a campsite north of 100 Maple St., behind the original Johnn’s Tavern. Upon arrival, first responders discovered White inside her tent with apparent stab wounds. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Beasley, who had been identified as a person of interest in the case, was found in Burcham Park – just across the Kansas River – where he was detained for questioning. He was subsequently booked into the Douglas Co. Jail on unrelated warrants.

Legal Proceedings

After four days behind bars, Beasley was officially arrested for the murder of White. Investigators collaborated closely with the Douglas Co. District Attorney’s Office throughout the investigation. Beasley now faces charges of failure to appear, parole violation, murder in the first degree, and interference with law enforcement.

The Kansas Public Access Court Portal confirmed that Beasley has been formally charged with murder in the first degree and felony interference with law enforcement. If found guilty, he could face life in prison with no possibility of less than 50 years behind bars for the murder charge, as well as 5 to 17 months for the interference charge.
