Man Arrested for Murder Following Fatal Shooting on Wadmalaw Island

A 34-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred on Wadmalaw Island, Charleston County, South Carolina.

David Matthew Legare has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The incident took place on the 6200 block of Maybank Highway at approximately 10 p.m. on February 16.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office discovered a man who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as 38-year-old Elijah Jones, was tragically pronounced dead on site.

Investigations revealed that the shooting was a result of a confrontation between Legare and Jones. The motive behind the altercation remains under investigation.

Following the incident, Legare was apprehended on Friday and is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
