A hiker who tragically lost his life on a trail in Palm Springs has been identified as Andrew Scott Hollinger, a 73-year-old retired art teacher from the local area. The Riverside County coroner’s office confirmed his identity.

The incident occurred on the Museum Trail in Palm Springs, a popular hiking spot known for its stunning views and challenging terrain. The trail is located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, offering hikers a chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the desert landscape.

Emergency responders from the Palm Springs Fire Department received a distress call around 7:50 a.m. on a Saturday morning regarding a hiker in critical condition on the Museum Trail. Upon arrival, rescue crews immediately initiated resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately, they were unable to revive Hollinger. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is still under investigation, with authorities considering a possible medical emergency as the preliminary cause. The loss of Hollinger has deeply impacted the community, as he was the son of John Hollinger, a founding member of the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit.
