CBP Officers Seize $3 Million Worth of Cocaine Hidden in Shipment of Limes at Otay Mesa Commercial Facility

Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility in California made a significant drug bust on Thursday, uncovering over $3 million worth of hard narcotics concealed within a shipment of limes.

Limes

CBP officers at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility discovered more than $3 million worth of cocaine hidden in a shipment of limes on Thursday.

According to reports, at around 11:22 a.m., CBP officers flagged a 42-year-old man driving a commercial tractor-trailer carrying a shipment listed as Persian limes. Despite being a valid border crossing card holder, the driver and his cargo were subjected to further inspection by CBP officers.

Following a screening by a CBP K-9 unit in the secondary inspection area, officers were prompted to conduct a thorough examination of the trailer. This scrutiny led to the discovery of 158 suspicious packages containing cocaine, weighing a total of 435 pounds and valued at an estimated $3,355,800.
