ROCHESTER, UK (WROC) — The Office of the New York State Attorney General has recently released body-cam footage of a tragic incident that took place in East Bloomfield, a small town in Ontario County, New York. The incident occurred on November 15, 2023, and has sparked controversy and debate among the local community.

The Incident

The footage shows a New York State Police trooper approaching a home on State Route 64 in East Bloomfield. The trooper can be seen engaging in conversation with someone before turning his attention to a 17-year-old boy. The situation escalates quickly as the boy retrieves something from his pocket and charges at the trooper, ultimately tackling him to the ground. Multiple shots are fired, and the trooper calls for emergency medical services.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, the boy was armed with a knife and charged at the trooper before the fatal shots were fired. The boy tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Response

The grandfather of the deceased teenager has come forward, stating that the boy had been struggling with mental health issues. He questions the narrative put forth by the New York State Police and raises concerns about whether the appropriate personnel were dispatched to handle the situation.
