Teenager Arrested for Stealing Vehicle in Southington

A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle on Sunday evening in Southington, according to local police authorities.

Incident Details

The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. when officers received reports of a stolen vehicle heading south on West Street. Reports indicated that the vehicle in question was a red Kia Sorrento, which was spotted by patrolling officers speeding and swerving into oncoming traffic.

Subsequently, law enforcement officials managed to track down the stolen vehicle in a rear lot on Executive Blvd. North. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver and three passengers hastily exited the car, leaving it in drive mode. This resulted in the vehicle colliding with a police car.

Arrest and Charges

The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as a 16-year-old male, was apprehended by authorities. He now faces a slew of criminal charges, including larceny and reckless endangerment, in addition to multiple motor vehicle violations.

Furthermore, the three other occupants of the vehicle, two 18-year-old women and a 17-year-old girl, were also identified but were released following the incident.

Prior Criminal Record

Police revealed that this latest arrest marks the teenager’s third encounter with law enforcement. Previous arrests were recorded in 2022 and 2023, underscoring a pattern of criminal behaviour.
