Man from Matteson Charged in Deadly Expressway Shooting in Dolton

A resident of Matteson, Illinois, has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that caused a two-car collision on the Bishop Ford Freeway in Dolton last summer. The incident took place on the evening of August 28, 2023.

According to the Illinois State Police, 32-year-old Calvin Woods faces two counts of first-degree murder following the shooting on the northbound lanes of I-94 near Dolton Road. Troopers were called to the scene at 7:27 p.m. after reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

Upon arrival, authorities found an abandoned Audi A4 and a Toyota Camry crashed against the concrete median. The driver of the Toyota Camry, identified as 30-year-old Travon Mackie from Chicago, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Mackie was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Arrest and Investigation

Calvin Woods, who was a passenger in the Audi, was later identified as a suspect in the shooting. After a joint effort involving the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service, Woods was apprehended on February 22. He is currently being held at the Cook County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
