Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Father, Son, and Family Friend in Ohio

In a devastating incident, a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff in southeast Ohio, claiming the lives of three individuals. The victims have been identified as a father, his son, and a family friend who were on their way to Florida to pick up a newly purchased vehicle over the weekend.

The pilot, Daniel Baker, 44, from Jackson, Ohio, was accompanied by his father, Robert Daniel Baker, 78, from Lucasville, and their family friend, Zebulon Logan, 45, from Lucasville. They were en route to Florida to collect a vehicle that Logan had recently purchased.

The tragic crash occurred in a field just a quarter-mile north of the James A. Rhodes Airport. The Piper PA 32 Cherokee Six aircraft was spotted engulfed in flames shortly after 12:30 p.m. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, all three occupants were found deceased.

Authorities discovered Daniel Baker’s car parked at the airport, indicating their intended destination. The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the elder Baker as Dan Baker, 75, from West Portsmouth.

Investigation Underway

The Jackson County coroner has transferred the remains of the victims to the Montgomery County coroner’s office for autopsies. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the tragic crash.

The James A. Rhodes Airport, where the ill-fated journey began, is situated approximately 65 miles south-southeast of Columbus, Ohio.
