Jackson, Ohio Small Plane Crash Claims Three Lives

In a tragic incident in southeast Ohio, a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the loss of three lives. The victims have been identified as a father, his son, and a family friend who were on their way to Florida to pick up a newly purchased vehicle over the weekend.

The pilot, 44-year-old Daniel Baker of Jackson, was accompanied by his father and 45-year-old Zebulon Logan of Lucasville on the ill-fated journey. They were en route to Florida to pick up a vehicle that Logan had recently purchased when their plane went down in a field just a quarter-mile north of the James A. Rhodes Airport, as reported by the Jackson County sheriff’s department.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered a car belonging to Daniel Baker parked at the airport. The father of the pilot was identified as Robert Daniel Baker, 78, of Lucasville by the sheriff’s office, while the Ohio State Highway Patrol listed him as Dan Baker, 75, of West Portsmouth.

The Piper PA 32 Cherokee Six aircraft was spotted engulfed in flames just off the roadway after 12:30 p.m. Emergency responders from the Jackson Fire Department worked swiftly to extinguish the fire, but unfortunately, they found the three occupants of the plane deceased at the scene.

Following the tragic incident, the remains of the victims were transported to the Montgomery County coroner’s office for autopsies. The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be collaborating with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board in conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The James A. Rhodes Airport, where the tragic crash occurred, is situated approximately 105 kilometers south-southeast of Columbus. The local community is mourning the loss of these three individuals and coming together to support their families during this difficult time.
