Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded in Jackson County today as a single-engine plane crashed at approximately 12:35 pm, as reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The aircraft involved in the crash was identified as a Piper PA 32 Cherokee Six, which went down in a field located just a quarter of a mile north of the James A. Rhodes Airport in Jackson County. This particular model of aircraft has been involved in similar incidents in the past.

Flight tracking data from FlightAware revealed that the ill-fated flight lasted a mere 8 minutes, with no significant fluctuations in the aircraft’s speed. The harrowing crash resulted in the loss of all three occupants on board.

The victims have been identified as Daniel T. Baker, aged 44 and a resident of Jackson, who was seated in the left front seat; Zebulon D. Logan, aged 45 from Lucasville, who occupied the right front seat; and Dan Baker, aged 75 from West Portsmouth, who was seated in the left rear.

Following the crash, Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier disclosed that the downed plane was discovered by the Jackson Fire Department while responding to reports of a fire near the airport. Subsequently, Jackson County Deputies and EMS personnel arrived at the scene, where they found the three occupants who tragically lost their lives in the crash.

Sheriff Frazier confirmed that Daniel Baker was the pilot of the single-engine aircraft, with Dan Baker being his father, and Logan being a family friend. The flight’s short duration of 8 minutes after takeoff raises questions that the investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board aim to address.

To shed light on the circumstances surrounding the crash, Jackson County Coroner Dr. Alice Frazier has sent the bodies to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsies. The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of this tragic event.
