Discovery of the Body

The tragic incident occurred on May 15, 1992, when a construction worker stumbled upon Murlin’s decomposed body wrapped in a blanket in a Fort Wayne basement. The discovery shocked the community as the young woman, who was around 23 years old and 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, had remained unidentified for years.

Exhumation and DNA Testing

Despite an autopsy being carried out at the time of her discovery, no cause or manner of death could be determined, leaving investigators with little to go on. In a bid to unravel the mystery, Murlin’s body was exhumed in 2017, and DNA testing was conducted.

Breakthrough in the Case

In a recent breakthrough, IGGnite DNA co-founder Lisa Needler managed to trace several of Murlin’s biological family members, including her father, mother, and two aunts. One of the aunts even had a marriage license for Murlin and her husband, Jerry Murlin, shedding more light on the young woman’s life.

Family Statements

Murlin’s father, Robert Bowers, revealed that he last saw his daughter in 1988 as she left for Tennessee with her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Jerry Murlin, the husband, stated that he had last seen Tabetha in 1989 when the two separated and he moved in with his parents.
