Man and Family Members Charged with Dowry Death in Indore

In a tragic incident in Indore, Betma police have filed a case against a man and four members of his family on allegations of dowry death. The case came to light when a 23-year-old newly married woman, Sonam Rathore, was found dead by hanging at her residence on February 10. It was revealed during the investigation that Sonam had taken her own life due to physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws over dowry.

Details of the Case

According to the police report, Sonam Rathore, a resident of Kalibillod, had been subjected to constant physical and mental torture by her husband, Shubham, father-in-law Ramesh Chandra, sister-in-law Anguribala, brother-in-law Hemant, and sister-in-law Kavita. The family had demanded an additional Rs five lakh in dowry from Sonam’s family members, leading to her extreme step of ending her life.

The police have taken action against the accused individuals under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Mobile Thief Apprehended with Stolen Phones

In a separate incident, the crime branch of Indore has successfully apprehended a mobile thief and recovered three stolen mobile phones from his possession. The arrest was made after receiving information about a person trying to sell mobile phones at discounted prices.

Arrest and Confession

The accused, identified as Jaydeep Kushwah of Digvijay Nagar Multi, was caught by the police who found him unable to provide valid documents for the mobile phones. During interrogation, Jaydeep confessed to stealing the phones from near Gopur Square on February 18. He revealed that he targeted locked houses after conducting reconnaissance of potential targets.

The police have registered a case against Jaydeep Kushwah under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are further investigating any previous criminal activities. It was also disclosed that Jaydeep has a history of prior charges related to carrying arms and assault cases.
