Over the weekend, vigils were held across the United States for Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old nonbinary student from Edmond, Oklahoma. The heartbreaking event unfolded after an altercation in a high school bathroom, where Benedict faced bullying from three girls.

High School Altercation
The incident occurred at Owasso High School, where Benedict and their friends were targeted by the girls. The confrontation escalated when the girls attacked Benedict after water was poured on them. In a video released by the police, Benedict recounted the bullying they experienced in the bathroom.
Emergency Response
The day after the fight, Benedict’s mother made a distress call to emergency responders. She reported that Benedict was experiencing shallow breathing, rolling back eyes, and curled hands. The situation quickly turned critical, leading to Benedict’s tragic passing.
