Teenager Pleads Guilty in Drunken Driving Crash That Seriously Injured Siblings
A 19-year-old has admitted guilt this week in connection with a horrific drunken driving crash that left two siblings seriously injured. Matthew Sukhram entered a Norgaard plea to two counts of criminal vehicular operation, following an incident that shocked the community.
Details of the Incident
According to court records, the incident took place on the evening of September 16 when Sukhram was driving recklessly on I-35W, reaching speeds of over 100 mph. A Ramsey County deputy attempted to stop Sukhram, but a short chase ensued, resulting in the deputy losing sight of the speeding vehicle.
The crash occurred at the intersection of 29th Avenue and New Brighton Boulevard in St. Anthony, where Sukhram’s car collided with another vehicle. Sukhram, who was found to have a blood alcohol content of .093, showed clear signs of intoxication at the scene.

The aftermath of the crash was devastating, with the 21-year-old driver of the other vehicle rendered unconscious. The driver’s brother, a young boy who was also in the car, suffered severe injuries, including two brain bleeds, brain hematomas, and extensive internal injuries to his vital organs. The boy required immediate surgery to remove part of his stomach.
Concerning Behaviour
During the investigation, Sukhram displayed a callous attitude towards the victims. He failed to inquire about their condition and was solely preoccupied with the repercussions he would face, including the amount of bail required for his release.
Sentencing and Accountability
Matthew Sukhram is set to be sentenced on April 24, where he will face the consequences of his reckless actions. The community awaits justice for the victims and hopes that this case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence.
