Former Funeral Home Owner Arrested for Allegedly Storing Human Remains at Denver Home

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of Miles Harford, a former funeral home owner, who allegedly had dozens of human remains at his former Denver home. The 33-year-old Harford was taken into custody on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft. He is currently being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Center and is expected to appear in court on Friday.

Discovery of Human Remains

The investigation began on Feb. 6 when Denver police and personnel from the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner were called to a house that Harford was renting in the 2500 block of South Quitman Street. Inside the home, investigators found several cremated human remains. Additionally, a woman’s remains were discovered in a hearse parked on the street. The woman has been identified as Christina Rosales, 63, who passed away of natural causes on Aug. 31, 2022.

Recovery of Human Remains

After searching the home, the hearse, and a U-Haul parked outside the property, investigators believe they have recovered the remains of at least 30 individuals who passed away between 2012 and 2021. Police interviewed Harford, who admitted to owing money to several crematories in the area. He stored the deceased woman’s body in the hearse after crematories refused to cremate it. The ashes that were provided to the woman’s family have been handed over to a medical examiner’s office for further examination.

Arrest and Closure of Business

Despite an arrest warrant being issued for Harford on Feb. 12, he did not turn himself in. Police offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Harford was the owner of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, which closed in September 2022 due to financial difficulties. Denver Police are urging clients of the funeral home who did not receive the remains of a loved one or had concerns to contact the authorities.

Legal Proceedings

At present, court documents do not list a defense attorney who could provide a statement on Harford’s behalf. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information about the incident. The Associated Press has contributed to this report.
